Bay Laurel is sacred to the God Apollo and Mother Gaia. Apollo, son of Zeus, fell in love with a mountain nymph named Daphne. He pursued and tried to seduce her, but his affection was one-sided. Daphne spurned his attempts at seduction and sought the help of her father, Peneus, the river God to escape him. Peneus transformed her into a Laurel tree before Apollo thus foiling his attempts. The Laurel tree ever since has been sacred to Apollo. He wore a crown of bay leaves.
Bay Laurel’s magickal properties include increasing psychic abilities, healing, protection. cleansing, prosperity, warding off evil, and removing hexes and jinxes.
Black Cohosh Root (Cimicifuga racemosa)
